Historic Fatima Meeting of Bishops

On May 12, 1992 Father Gruner was present at the Pope Paul VI Pastoral Center in the large auditorium when the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon publicly, before a number of bishops, priests and lay people acknowledged that we do not yet have the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. For more details see "Cardinal of Lisbon States: Our Lady's Triumph Not Yet Here!"

On occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun, Catholic bishops from around the world are meeting in Fatima. This tremendous gathering of bishops is only possible through the prayers, support and generosity of people like you who read The Fatima Crusader.

The bishops are gathering there in October 1992 to honor the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to reflect once again on Her Fatima message which is so simple, so beautiful and yet so profound.

Below is the letter sent out to all the Catholic bishops around the world. The importance and timeliness of this awesome Bishops meeting is easily understood by reading this letter as well as many other articles in this issue of The Fatima Crusader.

Much work and prayer and sacrifice has already gone into this most important project. With the support of more prayer and sacrifices it may be the very last step that is needed before the Pope feels he has all the support, from the Bishops, that he needs before he gives the order to consecrate Russia as Jesus and Mary have so much insisted is necessary to bring true and lasting peace to the world. The Salvation of millions of souls may hang in the balance, depending on the success of this meeting of bishops at Fatima next October.

Please help this most important project by your prayers and financial sacrifices. Ultimately, it all depends on the Pope, but certainly the Pope needs the co-operation of many Catholic bishops and they in turn need our support, our prayers, our sacrifices, our work and our financial support to bring the full significance of Our Lady's entire Fatima Message to them.

As you read this letter, pray that Jesus and Mary help you to do all you can to bring about the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart by promoting the Consecration of Russia as requested by God Himself through the Fatima Message.

Your Excellency,

This is the seventh time in four years that I have had the honor of writing to Your Excellency and to all of your brother bishops.

As in the past, I am not writing Your Excellency today solely on my own behalf, but rather in the name of the more than two hundred thousand souls who comprise the international Apostolate of Our Lady which I have the privilege to direct.

These men and women of great faith and courage believe, as I do, that you and your brother bishops today hold in your hands the key to true and lasting peace throughout the world ... a peace than can embrace our Church, our homes, families and nations.

Your Excellency, we hold this belief for one very simple, but utterly compelling reason: We believe it because the Mother of God has told us so and the Mother of God does not lie!

75 years ago at Fatima, Our Lady solemnly promised us that if Her requests were granted "many souls will be saved ... Russia will be converted ... and a period of peace given to mankind."

I do not need to tell Your Excellency that this is a great and mighty promise, one confirmed by the most stupendous miracle of modern times and endorsed by Heaven itself.

Yet of those requests given by the Queen of Heaven at Fatima, only a single one remains unfulfilled and unanswered to this day, namely the collegial Consecration of Russia by the Holy Father in union with you and all the world's Catholic Bishops.

For many years, this issue of the Consecration of Russia has remained one of the most controversial and contentious in the Church. Sadly, it has also remained one of the least addressed.

Despite repeated promises of peace, the world is today faced with ever increasing violence, political chaos and, worst of all, a growing moral and spiritual confusion and faithlessness.

At Fatima, Our Lady warned us that, should Her requests be ignored, "Russia would spread her errors throughout the world, raising up wars and persecution against the Church, the good would be martyred, the Holy Father would have much to suffer and several nations would be annihilated."

As I write you today, there remain more than 1.25 BILLION souls enslaved by Communist regimes around the world. Even within so-called "democratic" Russia and Eastern Europe, the Communist and atheist power structure remains fundamentally intact.

The recent tragic events in Yugoslavia, Azerbaijan and even Los Angeles demonstrate conclusively how empty and vain are the declarations of peace that we have repeatedly heard.

As faithful Catholics, it seems clear to us that our only real hope to end the growing violence, chaos and spiritual confusion of our times is by affirming Heaven's Plan for Peace (as given at Fatima) and obediently conforming to its dictates.

With all respect, Your Excellency, we believe the time has finally come for you and your brother bishops to openly and publicly address the entire issue of Our Lady's Fatima request for the Consecration of Russia.

It is for that reason that we are inviting you to join your fellow bishops at Fatima in October of this year for a great Conference on "World Peace and the Immaculate Heart of Mary" sponsored by Our Lady's Apostolate.

At the Conference, you will have the opportunity to hear and discuss all sides of this issue. Both religious and lay experts on the Fatima Message will speak and lead discussions. Abundant time will be provided to ask questions and meet with distinguished theologians and Fatima authorities from around the world.

With the participation of Your Excellency, we are convinced that this Conference can be of inestimable value for millions of the Faithful, providing a means through which their deep desire for peace and spiritual direction may be addressed.

We earnestly pray that Your Excellency will be able to attend this critically important Conference. As time is short, we hope you will get back to us at your very earliest convenience with your answer. Indeed, please feel free to call or fax our office collect.

We look forward to hearing from you soon. As always, our prayers are with you and all bishops.

Yours in Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Father Nicholas Gruner

We understand that not every bishop is in the financial position to attend this Conference. Through the generous sacrifices of many devoted children of Mary, we are hoping to be able to provide funding for travel to and from Portugal and accommodation for the full five days of the event for those bishops who require it. Our ability to provide this funding is limited so, if you need financial assistance to attend, please let us know immediately.
