Father Fox's "star witness" Maria do Fetal
A photo of Maria do Fetal, taken this year in her apartment where she admitted to Father Pierre Caillon that she "invented" her stories regarding Sister Lucy and the Consecration of Russia. (See "The 'Inventions' of Maria do Fetal") |
Why would Sister Lucy have waited for over five years before declaring that Pope John Paul II had satisfied Our Lady of Fatima's requests with his act of offering of the world on 25 March 1984?
Father Fox has tried to forestall and avoid this formidable objection by claiming that when the Papal Nuncio went to see Sister Lucy after the 1984 consecration and asked if it was the consecration requested by Our Lord, Sister Lucy answered: 'Yes". In brackets, he added: "The Papal Nuncio of Portugal died shortly after the 1984 consecration." (Fatima Family Messenger Oct. '89, p.9.)
The Abbé de Nantes has proved that this testimony is false and non-existent. Archbishop Portalupi could not have visited Sister Lucy after the 1984 act of offering since he took to his bed after celebrating his last Mass that day at Fatima and died six days later, on 31 March. (CRC 225 Eng. ed. Jan. 90)
Father Fox now attempts to mask this enormous lie by coming out with further lies. "Sister Lucy said, he writes, she had told the Papal Nuncio of Lisbon shortly after the March 25, 1984 consecration that it fulfilled the conditions required by Our Lord." (Fox. "Mother Superior of Sr. Lucia writes concerning Collegial Consecration" The Wanderer 22 Feb. 90 p.10).
Father Fox truly wants to get things right: "To which Papal Nuncio did Sister Lucia confide in 1984 telling him that the collegial consecration was now completed?" he asked Maria do Fetal.
And she specified: "As regards the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Sante Portalupi died in Portugal on March 31 ... Archbishop Salvatore Asta was appointed next ... Archbishop Salvatore Asta asked sister if the consecration of Russia was made on March 25, 1984.
She answered, 'Yes'. [Editor: Sr. Lucy told the Papal Nuncio 'Yes' and then remained quiet on the subject until 1989]". (Fatima Family Messenger, Jan-Feb-Mar. '90, p. 11) Father Fox dares to conclude: "Sister Lucia felt she had done her duty in 1984 by telling the Papal Nuncio". (The Wanderer 22 Feb. '90)
That is a new untruth! We know, in fact, that at the end of the year 1985, Archbishop Salvatore Asta - appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Portugal on 17 October 1984 - still had not met Sister Lucy (On 12 March 1986, the Abbe x ... told Frčre Michel that he had learned during his stay in Portugal in October 1985 that Archbishop Salvatore Asta still had not met Sister Lucy.)
Nor had he any wish to meet her. He did not want to follow in the footsteps of Archbishop Portalupi, who had gone to the Coimbra Carmel after the act of offering of 13 May 1982, at Dr. Lacerda's instigation, to hear Sister Lucy state that John Paul II had not satisfied Our Lady's request.
Archbishop Salvatore Asta did not want Sister Lucy to be able to tell him in front of witnesses that the consecration of Russia was not done as Our Lady wishes.
To lend some credit to Maria do Fetal's recent pronouncements, Father Fox is obliged to appeal to an alleged testimony of the Nuncio to Portugal: a non-existent testimony!
For up to the month of June 1989, all the existing and irrefutable witnesses prove (cf. CRC 226 Eng. ed.), (See article "The Requests of Our Lady of Fatima Are Being Deliberately Hidden" in The Fatima Crusader issue 31-32.) that after 25 March 1984, Sister Lucy certified that the consecration of Russia had still not been accomplished.
Father Fox Encouraged by Cardinal Casaroli's Appointee
Father Fox persists in what he says because he knows that he has Rome's support. Here is the letter addressed to him by the Pro-Nuncio to the United States and which he published in Fatima Family Messenger for January 1990:
"I am grateful for your confidence in approaching me, as well as for your desire to place your apostolate at the service of the Church. Your efforts to bring unity to this beautiful movement by working under and with the Holy Father are particularly admired ... I can assure you that I agree with your assessment - namely, that three Pontiffs have in fact consecrated the world (and therefore, Russia) to Mary - most recently, His Holiness Pope John-Paul II in 1984.
"The observations of the Bishop of Leiria-Fatima, the Most Reverend Alberto Cosme do Amaral, as reported in the 'Fatima Family Messenger' (Oct-Nov-Dec. 1989), seem much to the point and his counsel should be heeded.
"With prayerful good wishes,
I am Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Archbishop Pio Laghi, Apostolic Pro-Nuncio."
Father Fox comments: "The counsel of the Bishop of Fatima he is referring to concerns the Pope making the Act of Consecration in union with a 'moral totality' of the world's bishops, including Orthodox bishops." (Fatima Family Messenger, January '90, p. 10-33).
Father Fox Contradicts Father Alonso
To lend conviction to Maria do Fetal's declarations, Father Fox continues to make the dead speak. After having appealed to the (non-existent) testimony of Archbishop Portalupi, he now covers himself with the authority of the official expert on Fatima from 1966 to 1981, Father Alonso, who was, he says, his "friend". (Fatima Family Messenger Jan. '90 p.10-33).
What Father Fox does not say is that up to his death in 1981 Father Alonso never ceased explaining that "the consecration of the world had no direct connection with the message of Fatima" and that "the magnificent promises were linked to the consecration of Russia alone." Alonso, Fatima Ante la Esfinge, ed. Sol de Fatima, 1979 p.111.)
Father Alonso frequently expounded the conditions, "expressly indicated and related by Sister Lucy" (Alonso, "Fatima et le Coeur Immacule de Marie" in Marie sous le symbole du Coeur, ed. Tequi p.57-58) in which the consecration was to be accomplished.
The official historian, who always certified that "the consecration was not made", set out precisely Our Lady's requests, which today are being falsified by Fathers Fox, Kondor and Messias, without forgetting the Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to the United States who claims that "three popes have consecrated the world ... and therefore Russia."!
Here are Father Alonso's declarations to the third international Seminar at Fatima in August 1971 as published in the Ephemerides Mariologicae (Alonso, "Fatima et le Coeur Immacule ," vol. XXII 1972, p.431-434.)
QUESTION: Did Our Lady ask for the consecration of Russia or for the consecration of the world? Has not Lucy wavered on this subject?
FATHER ALONSO: Our Lady asked not for the consecration of the world but only for the consecration of Russia. It was in October 1940 that Our Lord (and not Our Lady) asked for the consecration of the world with a special mention of Russia. Lucy has never wavered on this subject.
QUESTION: Why should the consecration be done in union with the bishops?
FATHER ALONSO: Because the good God (in Lucy's own words) wants, in this solemn way, to make known devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
QUESTION: Should not the non-Catholic Eastern bishops, who nevertheless have the apostolic succession, also be included in this request?
FATHER ALONSO: We do not think so. In several historical texts, it is expressly said: 'All the bishops of the Catholic world'.
QUESTION: Should the bishops' act be a purely collegial act? Or wouldn't a moral union suffice? Or again, a subsequent approval, for example, on the occasion of a bishop consecrating his diocese to the Immaculate Heart?
FATHER ALONSO: It clearly has to be a strictly collegial act: moral union would not suffice nor a subsequent approval.
These clarifications made by Father Alonso completely overturn the whole argumentation developed by Father Fox these last six months.
The Message of Fatima Deformed and Betrayed
In a previous study, we quoted these famous words of Cardinal Cerejeira: "Fatima, altar of the world, opposed to Moscow, capital of the realm of Antichrist." (CRC 227 Eng.ed.)
Father Fox curiously places this formula, "Fatima altar of the world ... the hope of the world" (Fatima Family Messenger, Jan '90) in the mouth "of the popes" - but of which popes?
Father Fox could not quote Cardinal Cerejeira's exact words because according to Father Fox's pen Communist Russia is no longer "the realm of Antichrist" but has become God's instrument for the advancement of His Kingdom. (Let us not deceive ourselves. Russia today is more than ever the communist empire, veritably possessed by satan. Did not "Mr. Gorbachev" himself declare that "perestroika is for external consumption" cf. CRC Eng. ed. p.16.)
As for its president, he is the veritable Savior of the world. According to Father Fox, here in fact is the message that Sister Lucy wants to communicate to us: "Now that Russia is changing, the influence Russia has in the world will help us." (Fatima Family Messenger, Jan. '90)
Through the will and by favor of the President of the Soviet Union, Russia is going to bring salvation to the world. A more violent inversion of the Fatima message is inconceivable.
