LAST MINUTE NEWS FLASH
Regarding the substance of the report of the interview with Sr.
Lucy reported in the July/August issue of Soul magazine (editor: John Haffert),
and which we quoted from in this issue in "A Reported Interview with Sister Lucy", it has been in part publicly
called into question by a report that has reached us just before taking this
issue to press.
Approaches Magazine of Sept. 15, 1982, has this to say on page
69-70 of their supplement "Fatima After May 13, 1982 What Now?": "We certainly
do not doubt John Haffert's good intentions. Nor would we suggest that his
story was intended to misrepresent the mind of Sr. Lucia."
But Approaches goes on to say:
"If we can say with certainty that John Haffert's report is
misleading, it is because the truth concerning Sr. Lucia's reflections on the
consecration of May 13, 1982, has since been made known in a private
communication from a person in Sister Lucia's confidence, who was also in her
company not for a few moments amid the bustle of the Papal visit, but for
several entire days.
"According to this quite unimpeachable source, Sr. Lucia's
viewpoint is that IT IS MOST REGRETTABLE THAT THE CONSECRATION MADE BY THE HOLY
FATHER WAS STILL NOT WHAT HAD BEEN DEMANDED WITH SUCH INSISTENCE BY OUR LADY."
Sr. Lucia was also at pains to emphasize that the collegial
consecration of Russia demanded by Our Lady necessitates an intensive
preparation of all the Bishops of the entire world - a preparation most
difficult to accomplish.
But she adds: 'WITH GOD, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. IT IS WITH THIS
CONFIDENCE THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO PRAY VERY MUCH AND FOR OUR PART DO
EVERYTHING WHICH WE POSSIBLY CAN DO TOWARDS THIS INTENTION.'
