POPE JOHN PAUL II SPEAKS ON THE SECRET OF FATIMA
There were three parts to the Secret of Fatima. The first two
parts have long ago been revealed. These were concerning the appearance of the
Angel at Fatima* in 1916 and the Vision of Hell which Our Lady showed the
children in July 1917. The third part of the Secret has not yet been officially
revealed as such.
The following reported dialogue of Pope John Paul II concerning
the famous Third Secret of Fatima, the secret that was opened by Pope John
XXIII in 1960 and which has not been fully and officially revealed by the
Vatican, is very interesting.
This Secret was revealed by Our Lady on July 13, 1917, to Lucia,
Jacinta and Francisco. It was entrusted to Lucia to transmit it to the Holy
Father*. This she did by means of a letter which was opened in 1960 as Our Lady
indicated was to be done. It was this *secret that the children, on August 13,
1917, would not reveal to the Masonic mayor of Ourem - even after being
imprisoned and threatened with death. The children would rather die than
disobey Our Lady in this matter. But that it was to be eventually made public
seems to be Lucia's understanding, because in the book by Father De Marchi,
which Sister Lucia personally approved of, the author indicated that the Secret
would be revealed by the Holy Father.
The following dialogue was originally published in German in the
October 1981 issue of Stimme des Glaubens . It is given as a verbatim report
of the meeting between His Holiness John Paul II and a restricted group of
German Catholics at Fulda during his visit to Germany. In the preface to the
article it says "We know the name of the reporter and also that the document is
authentic." This translation was made by Rev. M. Crowdy for Approaches magazine
edited by Mr. Hamish Fraser of Scotland. It was translated from the Italian
magazine published in Rome by Father Francis Putti. Both magazines are worthy
of our trust. The report follows.
Question: What about the third secret of Fatima? Should
it not have already been published by 1960?
Reply: (Holy Father): Given the seriousness of the
contents, my predecessors in the Petrine office diplomatically preferred to
postpone publication so as not to encourage the world power of Communism to
make certain moves.
The Holy Father continued: 'ON THE OTHER HAND, IT SHOULD BE
SUFFICIENT FOR ALL CHRISTIANS TO KNOW THIS: IF THERE IS A MESSAGE IN WHICH IT
IS WRITTEN THAT THE OCEANS WILL FLOOD WHOLE AREAS OF THE EARTH, AND THAT FROM
ONE MOMENT TO THE NEXT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WILL PERISH, TRULY THE PUBLICATION OF
SUCH A MESSAGE IS NO LONGER SOMETHING TO BE SO MUCH DESIRED.'
(EDITOR'S NOTE:
Here is the confirmation, almost to the letter
also, of the apocalyptic prophecy in the unofficial version of the 'Third
Secret' which for years has been in circulation without being denied: ' ... the
waters of the ocean will become vapor, and the foam will rise up overwhelming
and drowning everything. Millions and millions of people will die hourly ...')
John Paul II then affirmed: 'Many wish to know simply from
curiosity and a taste for the sensational, but they forget that knowledge also
implies responsibility. They only seek the satisfaction of their curiosity, and
that is dangerous if at the same time they are not disposed to do something,
and if they are convinced that it is impossible to do anything against evil.'
The report of the Holy Father's meeting with the group of German
Catholics continues:
At this point the Pope grasped a Rosary and said: 'Here is the
remedy against this evil. Pray, pray, and ask for nothing more. Leave
everything else to the Mother of God.'
Question: 'What is going to happen in the Church?'
Reply (Holy Father): 'We must prepare ourselves to suffer
great trials before long, such as will demand of us a disposition to give up
even life, and a total dedication to Christ and for Christ... With your and my
prayer it is possible to mitigate this tribulation, but it is no longer
possible to avert it, because only thus can the Church be effectively renewed.
How many times has the renewal of the Church sprung from blood! This time, too,
it will not be otherwise. We must be strong and prepared, and trust in Christ
and His Mother, and be very, very assiduous in praying the Rosary.'
(EDITOR'S NOTE:
Paul VI also, at Fatima, let forth an agonized exclamation:
"We say: The world is in danger ... here we have an immense and dramatic
picture of the world and its destiny. It is the picture that Our Lady reveals
to our eyes, the picture that we look on with terrified eyes ... (
L'Osservatore Romano, May 14, 1967, pp. 1-2.)"
Pope John Paul II at Fatima on
May 13, 1982, said:
"
The successor of Peter presents himself here also as a witness
to the immensity of human suffering, a witness to the almost apocalyptic
menaces looming over the nations and mankind as a whole."
His Holiness went on to say: "My heart is oppressed when I see
the sin of the world and the whole range of menaces gathering like a dark cloud
over mankind ..."
The Pope at Fatima prayed to Our Lady: "From nuclear war, from
incalculable self-destruction, from every kind of war, deliver us." )
