Persecution Still Continues Under Communism

Most Rev. Maximius Hermaniuk, Metropolitan Archbishop of Winnipeg for Ukrainians in Canada, speaking in Rome at the Synod of Bishops in Oct., 1980 said:

“Today's family is victim to disorders of a consumer society, of different regimes of political and economic dictatorships, and above all of the totalitarian regime of atheistic communism, for example in the Ukraine and in other countries in the world. The family, the first unit of human society, and as the first school of social virtues without which no human society could exist, alone, with the grace of God, can save contemporary society from all these disorders.

"But to do this, the family needs all the assistance that the Church and civil society can give it.”

 English edition, Oct. 6, 1980)
