National Pilgrim Virgin of Canada
Elects New Directors

You will be interested to know that The National Committee for the Pilgrim Virgin of Canada had its Annual Meeting of Members on February 18, 1981, in Ottawa. Almost 75% of the membership were represented. Father Jarecki chaired the meeting which went along very smoothly. The financial statements and the report of the auditors were approved unanimously. Clarkson-Gordon were appointed again to do the audit for the following year.

The Directors’ report was read by Father Gruner. This was followed this year by the election of Directors. The slate of Directors proposed by the outgoing Director, Mr. David Skelton C.A., was as follows: Father Nicholas Gruner; Father Michael Jarecki; Father Victor Soroka, O.S.B.M., Mr. Vincent Leonard; Miss D.J. Williams. This slate was then elected unanimously by the Annual Meeting for a three-year term of office ending in 1984.

This is the first time that there have been three priests elected to the Board, and we are all hopeful that this will help our apostolate grow even more and reach many more people with Our Lady’s Message of love and concern for all mankind. The Directors unanimously chose the following officers: as President, Father N. Gruner; as Vice President, Father M. Jarecki; as Secretary and Treasurer, Miss D. Williams.

You will be interested to know a little more about the new president. Father Gruner was ordained in 1976 in Italy after successfully completing at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, all the courses necessary for his doctorate in Sacred Theology. The thesis that he wrote for obtaining his Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) was about how the Blessed Virgin Mary is really and truly Our Mother in the supernatural order of Sanctifying Grace. A good part of his thesis dwelt on this teaching of the Catholic Church in the light of Vatican II and the post-Vatican II teachings of Pope Paul VI. Father Gruner has been working in this apostolate for over three years now, and has reached many people through his visits with the Pilgrim Virgin across Canada.

And the National Committee for the National Pilgrim Virgin of Canada would like to introduce to you the other Directors. Father Jarecki has been associated with this apostolate over the years, serving informally in an advisory capacity. He has many years’ experience as a Parish Priest and is very devoted to Our Lady. Father Victor Soroka, O.S.B.M., is of the Oriental Rite and has many years’ experience as a Parish Priest working with sodalities dedicated to Our Lady across Canada and in the United States. Mr. Vincent Leonard has been a promoter of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima in Canada for about thirty years. Miss D. Williams has been working diligently for four years now with this apostolate and the Board is glad that she agreed to serve again in this apostolate as a Director.

The Board of Directors thanks all the supporters of the apostolate, who by their prayers, cooperation and sacrifices, have supported so heartily the apostolate of Our Lady of Fatima.
