Reverence for Tradition
So, I want
to explain why the Message of Our Lady of Fatima has to be central to our world
view.
First
of all, what makes the Fatima Message eminently trustworthy is that Our Lady
at Fatima displayed a profound reverence for the consistent, unchanging teaching
of the Church throughout the centuries. When Our Lady came to Fatima, She did
not give us any new doctrine, nor did She give us a new understanding of Catholic
teaching that would differ from the consistent teaching of the centuries. St.
Paul said “But though we, or an angel from Heaven, preach a gospel to
you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema.” (Gal.
1:8)
And Our
Lady followed these sacred guidelines. Not only did She have profound reverence
for what the Church always taught, with the same meaning and in the same
sense, (eadem sententia eodem sensu) but She reinforced key doctrines
and orientations.
And the
doctrines and orientations that She reinforced can give us a clue to those
doctrines that would come under the greatest attack in our century.
